Angel monument to Christina Lesley Cornish, All Saints Maidenhead Cemetery, Maidenhead, Berkshire, England.
"In Treasured Memory Of Our Little Girl Christina Lesley Cornish. Fell Asleep Suddenly May 14th 1955 Aged 20 Months."
Christina Lesley Cornish was born in Eton, Windsor in 1953 to Clifford Gilbert Cornish, and his wife Sylvia Ann Frewing. Christina was to pass away on 14th May 1955, aged just 20 months old, in Windsor Berkshire. On 20th May 1955 the Maidenhead Advertiser carried the following announcement:
"Deaths
Cornish- Christina Lesley, darling daughter of Ann and Cliff, of 6 Clare Rd., fell asleep suddenly May 14. Aged 20 months."
A picture that makes you think - Christina would have been coming up to retirement age now and how different life would have been for her family. Our Mum loves looking at old grave stones (she was a funeral director at one time) but people think she's odd - she thinks people who sit and watch cricket matches are odd but it takes all sorts to make the world go round.

Having young children myself, it always serves to remind me just how lucky I am.
DeleteI don't see how looking at and appreciating gravestones and monuments could be any different than appreciating artefacts or artistic sculptures in a museum or gallery. Other people can be so... odd at times :)
Always sad to see a stone for such a young child, but she was obviously much loved. Thank you for sharing this on Taphophile Tragics
